Whoever is the next President will have some serious problems when it comes to addressing global problems, whether it is climate change or others. Anything that business sees against its interest will prompt them to pressure for no action or weak action, arguing that investment and jobs could move overseas. They may well might if there isn´t coordinated action by countries. On climate change that could be something like the ´Contraction and Convergence´ proposal being discussed for inclusion as part of the Simultaneous Policy. That is a package of measures being developed by people around the world and is a way for US citizens to reclaim their sovereignty from powerful vested interests. If you are unfamiliar with it, take a look at:

Very fair evaluation. I'm more positive myself, but mainly because, with both the NDP and Conservatives so strong against any carbon tax, I figure the Liberals are going to have to make sure they have a plan that has broad appeal if Canada is ever going to get carbon pricing. The Green Party can include gasoline, but I think the Liberals including gasoline would just guarantee Harper re-election.

Not that I've been able to find — at least, not month by month. If you dig around in Transport Canada's annual reports, you can find figures for whole years — here's the table for 2006, which is in the 2007 report and seems to be the most recent. There are reports going back a few years, but they wouldn't show much since they don't have the U.S. figures' resolution.

Dion is a UN puppet and Harper is a USA puppet.
Our elected officials can't give this great country away fast enough to please their masters.

Read Agenda 21 and make sure you understand the true meaning of sustainability. It's not what Dion or the media want you to believe.

As for Harper and the SPP. The integration of Canada with the USA and Mexico must be taken off the table.

Both Dion and Harper should be tried for treason.

Oh Canada! We stand on guard for thee. Or do we?

Well, sure, you can always find an example where change in the character of diet > eating more local.

HOWEVER, given the SAME food at the same proportions, local > remote.

What a crappy way to be sensationalistic.

And hell, given a decent sized 'local area', you CAN have the benefits of specialization AND the benefits of lower transportation costs.

Be interesting to see how much of this was caused by the winter being so miserable, which might have curtailed alot of "pleasure driving".

This is an often-used political (or business-political) tactic.

When you do NOT want to act, insist that no action be taken until a consensus is reached.

When you DO want to act, do what you want, but afterwards explain that there was no time to acheive consensus :-)
